On 25.05.2024, t he Presidential Decree Amending the Presidential Decree on the Organization of the Institutions and Organizations Associated, Related and Affiliated to the Ministry and other Institutions and Organizations numbered 160 (“Decree”) has been published in the Official Gazette.
The decree regulates that a company will be established by the Presidency of Health Institutes of Türkiye to carry out the necessary activities for the creation of an integrated health system that includes R&D, clinical research and production preparation stages in the field of pharmaceuticals and medical technologies within the scope of increasing education, research, development, biotechnology and informatics capacity in the field of health, to provide services to sector representatives, especially entrepreneurs, researchers, academics, in its prototype production areas, big data research center and centers of excellence, and to operate and manage the area designated as Türkiye Health Valley for this purpose.
As it is known, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have recently agreed on the Proposal for a European Health Data Space, which would regulate the use of electronic health data for the primary purpose of healthcare provision, the regime of recording systems and applications used in healthcare provision, the use of health data in secondary fields such as research, innovation, policy and regulation making, and the establishment of a European Health Data Space Board.
We consider the Türkiye Health Valley to be an important step in terms of supporting the development and localization of the digital health ecosystem in Türkiye and covering sector stakeholders other than public institutions.
